Yunan 2014

One of the more far-flung provinces of China with majority of it in high altitude (hence the "cloud" in its name). More details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yunnan

Trivia from our tour guide, Yunnan had produced very few imperial scholars because of its proximity from the imperial capital - nerds can't take the long travel and those who can aren't einsteins.

real china men need no safety harness
Lijiang: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijiang) - when i was on exchange, many locals told me that Lijiang's the most beautiful place in China, I think it's quite nice but I suspect tourism has unfortunately robbed some of its original charm.

FYI, Lijiang's part of the old tea route (茶马古道), to transport Yunan tea to other parts of China. Given that Yunan's damn ulu, such trips typically take around 2 years and is known to be pretty risky (bandits, robbers etc).
We arrived from Shangri-la at night, after a 4hr+ bus ride (fyi, the bus is not gonna win prizes with cleanliness and the journey down is through winding mountain routes. btw, the rest-stop toilets, makes the bus clean enough to eat off from in comparison (just think no flush, stream of water and ppl side by side..)

anyway, we stayed in the old town, which is bustling with tourists (we were told we were in the down season though) but i actually like the vibe of the town (cept for the thumping music of some of the clubs, knn damn shag).
